| Sunday, June 29 - [8:52 PM] I've been thinking of a game design for Age of Darkened Earth. While many are doing RTS, RPG, i'd like to make a sub-genre, if not a whole new one altogether. I'd like to call it HDS, or history-driven strategy. Instead of making buildings for a specific unit, players have to invoke a specific event which starts an age or decade or what-have-you. It could be global to the whole game (and thus, a certain unit will be available to all players), or specific to the player who created it, or to make things a little complicated, a tendency for this unit to be available only to this player. Or it could be, this unit would be available to another player instead. But that's not all. The production of this unit could even be stopped by an enemy player by ending its age, or, in another more subtle way, the unit is available only for a certain amount of time after it is started. For example. Zulu does a quest which triggered the event Bleeding Skies (rifts begin forming in the sky letting nether entities and creatures to enter the mortal realm) which henceforth lets the capture of bahamuts and vores and the recruitment of hydraknights possible. Rascargil, however, can stop this event from continuing by closing the rifts, perhaps by destroying its link to this world which could be a spell that can be retrieved from a quest. Or, Rascargil could fulfill a counter-event, by invoking the Flight of the Ratha, which lets another exo-dimensional army to close the rifts but only so by recruiting a certain unit from them (the Dominions). It can result in a complex series of events the players must study in order to be successful. Although to make the game not take too long, there could be a global event, like Judgement or The Devouring Force in which players must prepare for their survival to win. -~~oOo~~- Dark Giant Planet is the intellectual property of Francis del Mundo. copyright © 2003, all rights reserved |
